Goal Setting - Did I Make It?
When we started writing and posting articles, I said to myself, how the heck will I ever get to 10 articles this year.To be a big boy, I'd have to write tons and where will it all come from.I can't possibly have that much to say, although I have plenty of friends who will argue that point (they are smiling as they read this, especially my wife). So here I am, just beginning to draft my 11th article this year and I started with the notion of how will I get there, to now, I keep a yellow pad of subject ideas.Where Did They All Come From? To be honest, they came from reading and just like they say, that it takes 21 days to break or make a habit (although smoking was the hardest) it is a true saying. And you can do it to.Just set that time aside, even if it's 10 pages a night and soon you'll be hooked. And if you really start hard and do the morning routine everyday (I get to my coffee place by 7 if not earlier and read for about an hour) you will be surprised what you get done.I get asked a lot, that being, what I read and why.To be short and sweet, I read a ton of business books as I like what leaders have to say.If they can take the time to put down their winning thoughts and formulas, then certainly I should be taking the time to absorb that winning knowledge. Here is my list for this year, my goal was 40, I'm currently reading two, of which I'll finish one tomorrow or the next day, so clearly I made it.And by the skin of my teeth.I'm not the smartest guy in the world although I've got an advanced degree and I can tell you without a doubt, the knowledge acquired this year is nothing short than a year of Grad School, if not more --- NO KIDDING!This is what I jumped into this year and I'll highlight the ones that deserve your special attention (this list is in no particular order)..- The Go-Giver, Bob Burg & John David Mann.- Go-Givers Sell More, Bob Burg & John David Mann.- Decision Points, George W.Bush.- Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?, Steven Tyler.- Don't Get Trampled By The Moose!, Mark Burgess & Keith Henschen.- "The Business of The 21st Century", Robert T.Kiyosaki.- "The Compound Effect", Darren Hardy.- America By Heart, Sarah Palin.- "CRUSH IT!", Gary Vaynerchuk (but read Social Boom & The Thank You Economy first. It will make more sense).- The Starbucks Experience, Joseph A.Michelli.- "All Marketers Tell Stories", Seth Godin.- "The 4-Hour Work Week", Timothy Ferris.- Blink, Malcolm Gladwell.- "The Thank You Economy", Gary Vaynerchuk.- The Secret, Rhonda Byrne.- Why We Want You To Be Rich, Donald J.Trump & Robert T.Kiyosaki.- The Flip Flop CEO, Janine Finney/Lory Muirhead/Whitney Roberts.- Word of Mouth Marketing, Andy Sernovitz.- "StrengthsFinder 2.0", Tom Rath.- The Tao of Twitter, Mark W.Schaefer.- Mental Poisoning, H.Spencer Lewis.- "Enchantment", Guy Kawasaki.- "One Click", Richard L.Brandt.- "We Are All Weird", Seth Godin.- "Social BOOM!", Jeffrey Gitomer (and I read it twice. So that's 40!!).- The Great Depression Ahead, Harry S.Dent.- "What Would Google Do?", Jeff Jarvis.- Six Pixels of Seperation, Mitch Joel.- Paying The Price., Chris Doyle.- "Fascinate", Sally Hogshead.STOP!, Just Read This Book.- "In My Time", Dick Cheney.- Back To Work, Bill Clinton.- "Today We Are Rich", Tim Sanders.- "Think and Grow Rich", Napoleon Hill.- "Predictably Irrational", Dan Ariely.- "Stop Saying Your Fine", Mel Robbins.- "Radical Careering", Sally Hogshead.STOP!, Just Read This Book.Currently reading..- "Steve Jobs", Walter Isaacson.- "The Mackay MBA of Selling In The Real World", Harvey Mackay (which I should finish tomorrow), STOP!, Just Read This Book. So, I did it! No projections for the New Year, except to continue the same trend.Whether it's 30 or 40 books, they will all be good or great reads and I will continue to learn and help re-invent myself each and every day.My suggestion, do the same and you'll be surprise what you learn or rather, wake up within yourself.I know I got one more in me, as it would be unlike me not to beat my goal, so I'm pretty confident of getting to 41.Oh, in addition to a number of obvious subscriptions I HIGHLY recommend SUCCESS MAGAZINE.I read it at least twice and the CD's inside are really good stuff, at least 2 or 3 times for each segment. You will too!Enjoy!
